“A Unique Flamenco Cultural Experience in the Heart of Spain”

Introduction

Every two years, Claudia Carolina, Artistic Director of Theatre Flamenco, hosts a workshop in Spain for Flamenco students and afficianados. The next trip will take place from July 1st to July 15th, 2006 in Madrid, Spain. Your Maestra will be La Cintia.

Accomodation

Our Hotel is within walking distance of the dance studio and also close to Del Prado, the Plaza Mayor, Atocha Train Station and Puerta Del Sol.

Classes

Classes will be held in the morning from 10am to 12 noon Monday to Friday. Once or twice during this time, Claudia Carolina will be available for an optional review class for a small additional fee. The course concentrates on form recognition with rhythm and movements particular to the form, technique and palmas. A short piece of choreography will be taught during the workshop drawn from the forms that have been studied.

A workshop for guitarists is also available.

Cultural Itinerary

In addition to the flamenco workshop, the following activities are planned: (for estimated cost, see budget).

  1. Overnight trip to Cordoba (July 8-9)
  2. Day trip to Toledo (July 2)
  3. Concerts and tablaos (depending on availability)
  4. Shopping for much needed flamenco articles such as shoes, castanets, CDs etc.
  5. Shopping for articles of interest such as clothes, shoes, ceramics etc.
  6. Art gallery visits
  7. Walking tours of old Madrid with visits to local bars
Fees & Booking Information

Workshop cost: $750.00 CDN.

  1. First payment of $250.00
    due March 1, 2006
    ($150.00 of this is non-refundable)
  2. Second payment of $500.00
    due May 12, 2006
  3. LATE FEE of $100.00 will be added if payments are not received by above dates.

Any cheque that doesn’t clear with the bank must be replaced immediately by a money order.

Things to consider when budgeting:

  3. Hotel & food: $75.00 per day (generous)
  4. Hotel in Cordoba: about $30.00
  5. Train to Cordoba, return: about $130.00

These figures are based on 2005 prices and could be slightly different in 2006.
